Ambassador Ndumiso Ntshinga visited Hawassa

Ambassador Ndumiso Ntshinga visited Hawassa, capital city of the Southern Nations, nationalities and Peoples Region of Ethiopia on 10-11 July 2017 to identify investment opportunities
Ambassador Ndumiso Ntshinga visited the city of Hawassa in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples (SNNP) Region of Ethiopia on 10 – 11 July 2017 as part of the familiarisation programme.  The objectives of the programme was to get better understanding of the economic investment environment, build relations with local government and business leaders and identify economic opportunities for investment.  The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Forster Masuku, Counsellor Political; Mr Thabo Chauke, Counsellor Trade; and Ms Sebueng Chipeta, Counsellor Agriculture. 
The visit to the city and the engagement with the Deputy Mayor of Hawassa Mr Tamiru Taffe and other officials from the city administration, the President of the Hawassa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association, Mr Mr Milkias Andebo, private businessmen and women, as well as visit to successful factories which started from zero base to become major exporting business, provided the basic information and understanding of the investment environment.  The city is conducive for investment and South African companies are encouraged to consider investing in the following areas:

  • construction of medical hospitals
  • poultry, meat and agro-processing
  • hotels development and management

The Ambassador and his delegation had an opportunity to tour the Hawassa Industrial Park and saw the advance massive apparel and garment producing factories.
